How to register for the CLAT exam?

CLAT Exam

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a law entry level exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by participating Law schools. The CLAT exam is held once every year. Until CLAT 2022,  the CLAT exam was administered in May. But due to clashes with board exams and other competitive exams, the exam was shifted to December each year. CLAT 2023 was held on 18 December 2022. The CLAT 2024 process is expected to start in August 2023 and the exam will be held in December 2023.

CLAT Registration Process

The CLAT registration process is entirely online. The CLAT registration shall start by August 2023. The Consortium’s official website will disclose the details about the same. To register for the exam, the candidates need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit the official website

The first step to register for CLAT is to visit the official website of the Consortium of National Law Universities and click on the ‘CLAT-2024’ link.

Step 2: Fill in the application form

Once you click on the link, you will be directed to the CLAT registration page. Here, you need to click on the ‘Apply Now’ button and fill in the CLAT application form with your details, academic details, and communication details.

Step 3: Upload documents

After filling in the application form, you need to upload scanned copies of your passport-sized photograph, signature, and other necessary documents as per the specifications provided on the website.

Step 4: Pay the application fee

Once you have uploaded all the necessary documents, you need to pay the CLAT application fee. Online payment options for the application fee include credit card, net banking and debit card, and The application fee for CLAT 2023 is expected to be around INR 4000 for General and OBC category candidates, and INR 3500 for SC/ST/PWD category candidates.

Step 5: Submit the application form

After paying the application fee, you need to click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the registration process. Once the registration process is complete, you will receive an email or SMS confirmation on your registered email id and mobile number.
